Почему в английских идиомах так часто используют цифру девять вместо семи? For example, "On the cloud nine". В то время как в русском языке используется "на седьмом небе". Также "To be dressed to nines" - "быть одетым с иголочки".
I don't know, but here are some links I found:https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/explore/origin-of-dressed-to-the-nineshttp://www.dictionary.com/browse/cloud-nineThere is also "A cat has nine lives":https://www.quora.com/Where-did-the-phrase-cats-have-nine-lives-come-fromI don't think there's any significance to the whole "9" thing. It seems like a coincidence. We also have "Seventh Heaven" in English, it was the name of a TV show. But we don't use it anywhere near as often as "cloud 9".
